Executive Committee

The executive members of the Board of Directors include the Executive Director, President, Immediate Past President, First Vice-President, Vice-President, Secretary, and Treasurer. The board also has two directors at large.

Executive Director, John L Danise Jr. – John has been coaching for the past 40+ years. A Professional Tennis Registry Pro since 1990, he is one of the 700 + tennis teaching Professionals who have successfully completed the USTA High Performance Coaching program.

Recognized Nationally & Internationally he has been a previous speaker at the Florida Athletic Coaches Association, the National High School Coaches Association, The Professional Tennis Registry International Symposium, and numerous other events and business groups.

As director of the John Danise School of Tennis, his Business and Personal Development Plans have proven to be successful locally and as far away as India.

Besides coaching the Sebastian River High School Tennis team the last thirteen years, (Scripps News Paper, “2004 Tennis Coach of the Year” for the Treasure Coast) he has also taken eight teams to the AAU Junior Olympic Games, coached at the Team Florida Challenge and coached at the World Scholar Athlete Games, and was the Tennis coordinator for the 2006 Games at the University of Rhode Island. John still found time to serve on Sebastian’s Recreation Board and most recently on the Charter Review board.

A contributing editor and writer for Florida Tennis Magazine, John was the second President of the Professional Tennis Registry Florida Section and served eight years as a Board member of the United States Tennis Association / Florida Section, he is Tennis Chairman of the Florida Athletic Coaches Association, and Executive Director of the Florida High School Tennis Coaches Association.

President, John Pouzzner – John is a USPTA tennis professional and a former Tennis Chairman of the National High School Athletic Coaches Association (NHSACA), he has been named NHSACA Coach of the Year and has been inducted into two Halls of Fame.

Coached twenty-eight years the Northwestern Boys Varsity Tennis team and compiled a record of 328 wins and 122 losses, and qualified for the state tournament for twenty-six consecutive years. The team won the State championship in 2000, finished third three times, and in the top five on four other occasions.

In 1992, Northwestern won the League Championship with a 16 and 1 record. The team again won the League Championship in 1999, 2000 (undefeated), and 2001.

Nine Northwestern team members earned All-State honors. Twenty-four achieved All-League honors in either singles or doubles. In 1999, and again in 2001, the team’s number one player, was the State Class “S” singles champion. In 2000, team members were runners-up in both the State singles and doubles championships.

From 2002 to 2010, John was the Girls Varsity Tennis Coach at Montverde Academy, Montverde, Florida. In 2003, the Montverde Girls team completed a 12 and 1 season, and finished second, by one point, to eventual regional winner Lake Highland Prep. The number one and two players were undefeated in dual match play in both singles and doubles.

Since 2011, John has been the Boys and Girls Varsity Tennis Coach at West Orange (Winter Garden). In the past two years, the West Orange boys teams have compiled a 25 and 4 record. The team was 12 and 2 in 2011, and 13 and 2 in 2012.

Immediate Past President, Corbin Graves – Corbin is the tennis coach of Maclay High School for the last sixteen years. He has been a 25+ year certified teaching Professional with the PTR and Tennis Head Pro at Killearn Country Club, in Tallahassee, for the last five years.

First Vice-President, Tony Kamen – Tony has been the boys’ tennis coach of Naples High School for the past 13 years. In that time, his team has won 3 state titles and in 2004, he was named the Naples Daily News Spring Sports Coach of the Year as well as the National Tennis Coach of the Year by the National High School Coaches Association (NHSCA). Additionally, Coach Kamen has been nominated 3 times for the State Farm Good Neighbor Sportsmanship Coach of the Year. This year he was selected as the Naples High School Coach of the Year by the Eagle All-Sports Booster Club.

Vice-President, Janie Hollinger – Janie has worked for the Highlands County schools since 1984. She started playing tennis in 1985 only because her husband was always on the courts. Opportunity knocked in 1998 when the coaching position at Sebring High School became available. She has just completed her 14th year coaching the Sebring High School girls. This year they were 16-1 and their overall record is 188-28. Several years they were fortunate enough to be District Runner-Up or District Winner and 2 of those years had the privilege of taking the entire term to state competition.

Secretary, Scott Williams – Scott has served as the Director of Tennis at Saint Andrew’s School since 2003. While at Saint Andrew’s, Williams coached: FHSAA Florida State Boy’s Team Champions 2012; FHSAA Florida State Girl’s Team Runner-Ups 2012; FHSAA Florida State Girl’s Team Champions 2011. Williams has coached for over 32 years including former #2 ATP Singles Tour player Tommy Haas and #1 ATP Tour doubles player Max Mirnyi.

In addition to his director of tennis responsibilities, Williams is the Founder and President of Match Point Ministries and was named the 2012 USPTA High School Coach of the Year, the Florida Dairy Farmers 2012 Boy’s and 2011 Girl’s Coach of the Year, and the 2009 Spiritually Tough Tennis Coach of the Year.

Williams is certified by the USTA as a High Performance Coach and Level III Coach and is certified as a Level 1 Professional by the USPTA. In addition to his tennis experience, Williams is a PSIA level III full certified ski instructor. Williams is also the author of Skills & Drills 2011 & Serious Tennis 2000 (Human Kinetic Publishers) and author and producer of Spiritually Tough Tennis DVD.

Williams has been ranked nationally in both tennis and skiing. He earned his varsity letter in 1985 from Eastern Washington University where he was voted the most inspirational team member. In 1987, Williams played #1 Staatsliga A Professional Club Tennis in Heitzing, Austria. Williams has played professional satellite and challenger events in Europe, South America, and the United States. Williams has won a total of 19 state championships in both tennis and skiing in Florida and Washington.

Treasurer, Kasey Hamaway – Kasey, a graduate of Pine Crest and Director of Tennis for the past six years, grew up playing Florida Junior Tennis. She is a USPTA Certified Professional who has guided Pine Crest to more than a dozen District Championships, including five Individual State Championships and Pine Crest’s first ever Varsity Boys Team State Championship in 2012. Kasey played #1 singles and #1 doubles for Division 1 Auburn University. After college, Kasey was the USTA nationally ranked #1 player from 1998-2004. She was the USTA National Open Player of the Year, the winner of 22 gold balls representing national titles and the US representative on cup teams at Wimbledon and Monte Carlo. Kasey serves on the board of the FHSAA Advisory Committee, and her lifelong dedication to Pine Crest and tennis are evident on the tennis court every day.

Director at Large, William Adams – William is a graduate of the University of Florida in Gainesville, FL. Currently, an Assistant Director of Athletics with the Florida High School Athletic Association (FHSAA) located in Gainesville. Mr. Adams has been a member of the FHSAA Staff since 2012 and currently administers the sports of bowling, boys soccer, and boys & girls tennis.

Director at large, Shelton Crews – Coach Crews graduated from Florida State University in 1984. He began his coaching career at his alma mater, Chiefland High School in 1980. He also coached at Tallahassee-Florida High, Tallahassee-Godby, and North Marion, then back to Godby in 1995. In 1999 he was named Head Football Coach and remained there until 2010. Coach Crews has coached Weightlifting, Tennis, Golf, Girl’s Soccer and also served as Athletic Director at North Marion. Coach Crews was an assistant coach on two State Championship Football teams at Godby in 1986 & 1987. He also won the 1988 Weightlifting State Championship. Coach Crews is Tallahassee-Godby’s all time winningest coach in both Football (88-42) and Girls’ Soccer (22-22-3). As the Girl’s Soccer Coach his team made the state playoffs for the first time in school history. His Football teams qualified for the state playoffs in nine of his 11 years as the coach and were the 2008 3A State Runner-Up. He was named Florida Dairy Farmers 2008 3A Football “Coach of the Year”. Coach Crews was also named “Bobby Bowden Coach of the Year” by the Tallahassee Quarterback Club in 2008 & 2009. In his 25 years as a member of the FACA, he has served on the Board for eight years, State Football Chairman for four years, received the Outstanding Assistant Coach Award, coached in the North/South All Star game in 2005 and received the Life Membership Award in 2009. Coach Crews was named Executive Director of the FACA in July of 2010.
