Officers’ Reports:

Treasurer: Kasey Hamaway is doing a fantastic job! The account now has $1583.00 in it. Well done John and Kasey.

Old business:

All Star Tournament: John discusses the difficulty of having 16 regions well represented. John feels that combining neighboring teams will be more effective in creating 12 teams instead of 16. Finishing the event as early as possible on Sunday was well received. John noted that the USTA has the 18 year olds on at the same time. The top players will not attend this event for this reason. John reminded the coaches in attendance that free uniforms are available through our sponsors. Please read the website and stay posted on facebook. Tony Kamen shared a nice story about one of his players having their profile picture on facebook from the tournament three years ago. John has been in contact with various sponsors.

New business:

Will Adams (who replaced Gary Pigot) spoke about the dual match format, not this season but the following at the FHSAA State Championships. In the past we have seeded teams, but now we will use a bracket system. The brackets will be rotated so you will not compete immediately against regional rivals. The board is split on having tennis in the Fall, but if it is passed than next Fall would be the start. You would have a Spring and Fall session in 2015. Will stated that the Individual Tournament Winner will no longer play the Team Tournament Winner. Will also stated that all schools must turn in the Roster and District seeding list. Kasey asked Will about having a seniors list sent out to the coaches for the year end All Start tournament.

John Danise awarded Roxanne Malone for her contributions back to the community. Well done Roxanne!!!

Vice President Dave Porter

Vice President (Theresa Cunningham) John Pouzzner and seconded by Jane Hollinger or (Dave Porter) Committee Nomination
Call to end nomination by: Dede Allen
If any other nomination from the floor, voting to be conducted online and ends October 30,2014

Web Radio Show on UR Tennis Network in November we will be in agreement. There will be a weekly radio show. Content for the show can be regional representatives, sponsors, USTA, USPTR, and USPTA pros and anyone else throughout the State that are making things happen in the world of tennis. The UR Tennis Channel had over 300,000 complaints about the proposed changes from the NCAA. We must find our voice.

Working with John Pouzzner has had a calming effect on John Danise and he will be actively involved for the next three years as immediate past president.

The High School Certification has begun!!! California has asked Florida to start a certification program but John wants to stay focused on Florida. Human Kinetics has stated that we may share this program with other States. You must always take the level 1 We will be adding other books, points for coaching college. FHSTCA clothing will be available on the website.

Motion to close: Jane Hollinger Second: Dede Allen
Adjourned at: 6:42 p.m.

MINUTES of FHSTCA January 2014 Annual Meeting

Meeting date: January 10, 2014

Call to order:

Annual meeting of the FHSTCA, was held in Daytona Beach, FL, on January 10, 2014. The meeting convened at 5:22 P. M. Executive Director, John Danise, presiding.

Board Members in attendance:

John Danise, Barbara Danise, John Pouzzner, Tony Kamen, Jane Hollinger, Gary Pigott, Teresa Cunningham, Jim Crane, Scott Williams, Kasey Hamaway, and Wayne Robertson. Other FHSTCA members and quest attended.

Approval of minutes:

Motion was made by Jane Hollinger, and seconded by Wayne Robertson to approve the minutes of the April 26, 2013 meeting. Motion carried.

Officers’ Reports:

Treasurer: Executive Director John Danise stated that 2013 ended with approximately $250.00 in Wells Fargo account and the only debt owed was to Bobbie and John Danise for $150.00; explanation was given why the need to place $150.00 into account.

Request for Treasure was made, at which time Secretary Barbara Danise requested someone take her position.

Old business:

Being that we were incorporated as a not for Profit Corporation in the State of Florida on September 5, 2012, that did not mean we are a 501-C3 corporation and in order to do that we really needed a Treasurer and Secretary.

New business:

John Danise read the Agreement between the USPTA FL Division and FHSTCA Growing High School Tennis. Brad Leu expressed his pleasure in having a working relationship with FHSTCA and helping Florida high school tennis more beneficial and explained what their position would be in this partnership.

Jason Gilbert, from the USTA, was on board with the USPTA looking to have players being certified. Check news release on line (USPTA) information.

Two racquets from Wilson Sports are being donated to us and will be raffled off during the All Star Tournament. There was a discussion to sell raffle tickets in each Region before the Tournament and to talk to Angie from the Winter Park Tennis Club and have them start offering raffle tickets to sell prior to the tournament and drawing. Other means for selling tickets were discussed and encouraged to look into. Motion was made by Janie Hollinger and seconded by Teresa Cunningham. Motion carried

John Danise went over the next FHSTCA Team Challenge event in Naples on February 8th. David Porter of Jonesville Tennis Center previously conducted a successful tournament and has committed to conduct another in June

John Danise explained the importance of these team challenges, stating that the revenue while needed, was minor compared to the exposure for promoting our end of year All Star Tournament, as well as building better relationship with USTA/Florida and supporting our partner Team Connection with our contest to provide free tennis uniforms for a boys and a girls high school. Starting in May we want to resume conducting these tournaments and are looking to conduct at least one FHSTCA Team Challenge a month, in different regions of the State

Our Immediate Past President Corbin Graves is no longer coaching high school tennis and our President John Pouzzner will take over his nomination committee duties.

ALL STAR TOURNAMENT: Explanation of change from 8 regions to 16 regions discussed, as well as making sure all schools and students know of the opportunity. This year’s Regional winner will represent Florida in San Diego at the WTT National Junior Tournament, thanks to our partnership with Youth Tennis Foundation of Florida. Went over Application fee of $25.00 non refundable. Discussion about verbiage occurred, members were asked to provide us with any suggestions for verbiage changes

Motion to close meeting by Jim Crane and seconded by Janie Hollinger. Motion carried.
